  • All-State Fullback in 1932 and 1933.

  • Favorite professor at R-MC was Dr. William Keeble, for whom Keeble Observatory is named.
  • Played semi-pro football after graduation.
  • One of the top backs in the Dixie League.
  • Played for the Richmond Arrows in 1936 and 1939.
  • Played for the Richmond Rebels in 1937.
  • Rebels won the Virginia-Carolina Football League Championship in 1937.
  • Most Valuable Player of the Norfolk Shamrocks in 1938, the champions of the Dixie League.
  • 6-2 record as head coach of Brunswick High School in 1936.
  • Served in the United States Navy.
  • Earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina
  • Coached football and earned his Ph.D. in Health and Physical Education at the University of Oregon
  • Helped found program and was first head football coach at Long beach State University from 1955-57.
