  • Sims scored 45 goals during his collegiate soccer career, which is first on Randolph-Macon's all-time list, and is ranked fifth on the all-time total points list (goals and assists combined), with 99.
  • Following his Randolph-Macon career, Sims played for the Georgia Generals outdoor professional team. He scored two goals in the playoffs in September 1982, helping his team to the American Soccer League championship game.
  • Sims went on to become certified as a national referee by the United States Soccer Federation. That gave him the opportunity to officiate men's and women's games on the high school, college, professional, and international levels, including the United States women's team against Japan in 1999.
  • Professionally, Sims works in commercial real estate. He has a daughter, Allyson, who is 11 years old, and his parents are Bob and Marie Sims. Sims was coached in high school by his father, who was honored with an award at the National Soccer Coaches Association convention in 1994.
