Smith was a four-year letter winner and three-year captain for men's golf. He was All-ODAC First Team in 2003 and 2006. Smith was medalist at the 2005 ODAC Championship and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The Yellow Jackets claimed the ODAC title in 2005, the only ODAC Championship in program history. Smith was the inaugural winner of the ODAC Sportsmanship Award in 2006. In 2002, Smith was the individual champion at the Virginia State Collegiate Golf Championship and medalist at the Virginia State Golf Association Intercollegiate Championship.
