Hall of Fame
Wood was an outstanding pitcher for the Yellow Jackets. After going 9-0 as a senior at Warren County High School. Wood was drafted in the 40th round of the MLB Draft by the Washington Senators. He elected to attend RMC and earned four letters. Wood was All-Mason-Dixon Conference First Team in 1969 and 1971 and was All-Mason-Dixon Conference Honorable Mention in 1970. He posted a career ERA of 1.88, the second-best mark in program history. Wood registered 15 wins, 11 complete games, 215.1 innings pitched and 165 strikeouts in his career, all second in program history at the time of his graduation. While coaching at Warren County High School, Wood was Winchester Evening Star High School Coach of the Year in 1974 and earned the school's Hugh D. Hite Award. Wood was inducted into the Warren County High School Hall of Fame in 2007. He started the athletic department and served as AD at Caroline County Middle School. While working in the RMC Admissions Office, Wood started the RMC women's basketball program and served as its first head coach. He was an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets for 21 years, working seven years with Hugh Stephens and 14 years with Gregg Waters.
