Hsieh Scores Five for R-MC Women's Lacrosse vs. CNU

ASHLAND, Va. - Junior Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) netted a game-high five goals as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-11 decision to Christopher Newport Tuesday evening at Day Field.

Hsieh had five goals on seven shots, of which six were on goal. She also had an assist for the Yellow Jackets (3-2).

After the Captains (4-3) scored twice in the first four minutes, sophomore Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) got on the board as the Yellow Jackets pulled within one at 2-1 six minutes into the contest. CNU added a goal before Hsieh scored with 20:28 left in the first period to make it a 3-2 game. The Captains netted a pair before sophomore Saunders Riley (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) scored to make it 5-3 midway through the first half. CNU tallied the next two goals before senior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) netted the next goal to make it 7-4 with 10 minutes remaining. The Captains scored before Hsieh had the final goal of the half with three minutes left as R-MC trailed 8-5 at intermission. CNU had a 17-6 advantage on shots and 12-2 edge on draw controls in the first period.

The teams would alternate goals throughout the second half. Jones scored on an assist by Riley just over two minutes into the second stanza to make it 8-6. Snee's second goal came on an assist by junior Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) to make it 9-7 with 23:30 remaining. Hsieh would score the net three goals for R-MC, the final one with 4:18 left as the home team pulled with two at 12-10. Following the final CNU goal, Hsieh fed Lightfoot for the final score with 1:12 remaining as R-MC fell 13-11.

Jones and Snee both finished with two goals. R-MC had a 17-14 advantage in ground balls. Junior Sarah Alvanos (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) led the Yellow Jackets with four ground balls, while senior Kristin Patrick (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) recorded three. Jones had two draw controls for the Yellow Jackets, as CNU held a 21-5 advantage for the game. Hsieh and senior Laney Dee (Norfolk, Va./Bishop Sullivan) both had a pair of caused turnovers.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, March 18 with a 1 p.m. contest at Washington College.
