GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team started its ODAC campaign in a big way on Saturday, rolling over Guilford College 9-0.
In doubles action, junior Angelina Sportelli (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and sophomore Kelsie Grice teamed up to down Haley Andrews and Allison Hewett 8-3 at the No. 1 position. The Jackets continued to cruise from there, with sophomores Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill) and Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./Prince George) claiming an 8-1 decision at No. 2, while freshmen Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C./Northern Nash) and Hannah Trueblood (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) blanking their opponents 8-0 at No. 3.
In singles, the Quakers failed to get a set off the Yellow Jackets. At the No. 5 position, Hinson held Mara Stern without a game, in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 rout. Grice and Jessemen won with identical scores of 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 and 4 positions, respectively. Sportelli won the only close match of the contest, beating Haley Andrews 6-4, 6-3. Trueblood and Tomlin rounded out the victory, with Tomlin defeating Guilford's Gonzales 6-1, 6-1 and Trueblood defeating Gordon 6-0, 6-2. The match was the ODAC debut for freshmen Trueblood and Hinson.
The Yellow Jackets look to continue their dominating ways, hosting Shenandoah University at the Banks Tennis Center on Sunday.
