How it Happened
- In the first period, McDaniel took an early 2-1 lead on a free-position goal by Emma Miller with 12:25 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets answered with three straight goals by Taylor Mittelstadter (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester), Annie Bartley (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and Cami McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to take the lead back 4-2 with just over seven minutes remaining. The Green Terror got within a goal quickly after the RMC run, but another three goal burst by Randolph-Macon put the Lemon and Black up 7-3 after the first period. Rianna Lowery (Bel Air, Md./Notre Dame Prep), Bartley and Cami McNeally all scored twice to jump start the Randolph-Macon offense early.
- Both teams traded goals in a more pedestrian second period on the offensive end. Randolph-Macon matched every Green Terror goal, a Cami McNeally goal with ten seconds left gave the Yellow Jackets their biggest lead of the game at 11-5, going into halftime. The Lemon and Black would outscore McDaniel 4-2 in the second 15 minute period.
- In the third period, Taylor scored back-to-back goals for the Green Terror to bring them within four, still RMC led 11-7 with 11:35 remaining. Lowery would put together her own back-to-back goals for Randolph-Macon to put the score back to 13-7, with the Lemon and Black matching their largest lead of the game. Goals by Lilly Fowler (Phoenix, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Bartley to end the period gave the Yellow Jackets their largest leads of the game, with the score set at 15-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.
- Randolph-Macon would outscore the Green Terror for the fourth consecutive period (3-2), to salt away their third straight win to start the 2024 campaign. Evie McNeally, Cami McNeally and Bartley all scored for the Yellow Jackets in the final period.
By The Numbers
- Randolph-Macon outshot McDaniel 30-to-23, the Yellow Jackets also had 23 shots on goal, compared to the Green Terror 18.
- Randolph-Macon won 20 draw controls, to the Green Terror 12.
- Lowery's five goal game is the most this season for the junior. She also had recorded an assist in the match for seven total points.
- Bartley scored four goals and added an assist in the contest. The senior recorded ten goals on the week for the Yellow Jackets.
- Cami McNeally recorded a career high in goals with four in the game, three coming in the first half. The freshman also scooped up a ground-ball to add to her stat sheet.
- Fowler finished with a hat-trick and an assist on the afternoon.
- Evie McNeally dished out two assists and added a goal in the game.
- Emma Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) got the win in goal for Randolph-Macon with eight saves and seven ground-balls.
