MK Geratowski was named Associate Director of Athletics on July 1st, 2026. Geratowski moved into a full time administrative role after 13 seasons as the head women’s lacrosse coach and 10 years serving the department as the Senior Woman Administrator and Director of Compliance.
Geratowski completed her13th season as head coach of the Yellow Jacket women's lacrosse program in 2026. In her 13 seasons in Ashland, Geratowski led the Yellow Jackets to 138 wins, 76 of those in conference. The winningest coach in program history, she tied the program record for wins in a season three times (2025, 2024, and 2015). She won a play off game in every season, including six trips to the conference championship. She coached 72 All-ODAC players, including three Rookies of the Year and two Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Geratowski mentored 21 IWLCA All-Region selections, and in 2017 Kristin Patrick ‘17 was named the IWLCA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year nationally. Over the course of her career Geratowski was selected as the VaSID and RMC Hugh Stephens Coach of the Year, as well as being selected as ODAC Coach of the Year twice (2105, 2026).
Under Geratowski’s leadership, the Yellow Jackets were awarded off the field as well. The team was an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad in each year that the award has been presented since her arrival in Ashland, as well as having numerous members of the team named to the ODAC All-Academic team and IWLCA Honor Roll. The team was also the recipient of the IWLCA Team Community Awareness Award in 2014, 2015, and 2021, as well as the Randolph-Macon Athletics Community Service Award in 2022 and 2024 for their work in the community.
Geratowski’s Yellow Jackets also printed their names in the RMC record books during her tenure. In 2018, Alex Lightfoot ‘18 broke the record for career assists with 169. She also holds the number two and number 6 spots in the record book for assists in a season with 59 and 49 respectively. Many of those assists were sent to Alicia Hsieh ‘18 who holds the number four spot for career points with 299, the number two spot for career goals with 255, and the number two spot for goals in a season with 74. The top ten for career draw controls are all held by players who were mentored by Geratowski with Jenelle Whitman ’16 holding the top spot with 374. Whitman also holds the top two spots for draw controls in a season with 145 and 107 respectively, another category where 9 out of the top 10 were mentored by Geratowski. On the defensive side of the ball, Susie Snee ’17, the 2017 Susan DeNagy award winner for top female student-athlete at RMC, holds the number two spot for career caused turnovers with 92 as well as the number two spot for career draw controls with 253.
Prior to her arrival in Ashland, Geratowski spent three seasons as an assistant coach in the Commonwealth of Virginia with stints at the College of William and Mary, Washington and Lee University, and the University of Richmond. She started her collegiate coaching career at Connecticut College after spending a year abroad coaching at a girl’s private school in Preston, England.
Geratowski has stepped out of her coaching role both nationally and on campus, serving as the tournament director for the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Day Field in 2019. She also served as the tournament director for the NCAA Division III Ashland Softball Regionals in 2017 and 2022. She served as the chair of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee for the 2022-23 academic year, a committee she was a part of since 2019. Geratowski also served as a member of the IWLCA Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021 and the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee from 2016-2019.
A four-year standout at Elmira College in both lacrosse and ice hockey, Geratowski was a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team in the Empire 8 for lacrosse in 2008 as well as serving as a team captain and being named team MVP. As a member of the nationally ranked ice hockey team, Geratowski won the Coach’s Award in 2005-06 and served as a student assistant coach in 2007-08 helping her team to two ECAC Championships and three NCAA appearances, including two trips to the Frozen Four.
In 2008, Geratowski earned a Bachelor of Science in English Literature and Secondary Education from Elmira. She earned a Master of Education in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011, serving on the alumni board from 2017-2019.
Geratowski resides in Mechanicsville, VA with her husband, Penn Stephenson, and their daughter, Riley.
