ASHLAND, Va. – Following a 14-1 drubbing of York (Pa.), the Randolph-Macon baseball team retained the top spot in the Perfect Game poll.
The Yellow Jackets stayed at No. 2 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25.
R-MC improved to 15-1 with the victory over the Spartans, the best start for the Yellow Jackets in program history.
In national team statistics, the Yellow Jacket offense was fifth in the country with 93 walks, and sixth with 144 runs and 40 doubles. R-MC was ninth in fielding percentage at .983. The R-MC pitching staff was fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 4.46.
Individually, senior Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) was second in the nation in runs with 25 and 17th with 11 stolen bases. Senior Shawn Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) was second with 25 RBI. Senior Mike Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) was second with 12 doubles. Senior Cole Grinde (Woodford, Va./Caroline) was 11th with 14 walks. Senior Reece Yeargain (Chester, Va./Benedictine) was 12th with 21 runs. Senior Michael Zubovich (Chantilly, Va./Freedom) was second with four wins. Senior Matt Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) was second with 54 strikeouts, third with six starts, 15th with 16.76 strikeouts per nine innings, and 16th with three wins.
