Softball Blasts Past Guilford on Senior Day


ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon softball recorded twenty hits and tallied 18 runs in two run rule victories on senior day against Guilford College.

How it Happened

Game 1:
  • Randolph-Macon got the bats hot in the first inning, as Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenberg County) drew a walk and Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) singled to put runners on the corners. Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) brought everyone home with a three-run bomb over the left field fence, giving the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead. 
  • In the second inning, Powell doubled into right field with one out in the inning. Boswell was hit by a pitch and Bush drew a walk to load up the bases with one out. Katerina Brabson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) singled up the middle to score Powell and an error in center field allowed Boswell to also score on the play. The Lemon and Black were not done in the inning, as Kiley Lamberth (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) doubled in Bush to increase the lead to 6-0 for RMC. The final run of the inning came on a Jordan Brown (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) reaching on a fielders choice to bring home Brabson and Randolph-Macon took a 7-0 lead into the third inning. 
  • The runs did not stop in the third inning for the Lemon and Black, as Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) blasted a solo homer over the right field fence and the lead shot to 8-0 for RMC.  
  • Randolph-Macon got one more run in the fourth inning on a Brown single up the middle to score pinch runner Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield). 
  • In the fifth inning, Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) shut down Guiford to secure the 9-0 run rule victory for the Yellow Jackets. 
By the Numbers
  • Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) started the game for the Yellow Jackets, tossing three innings and gave up only one hit. Guthrie finished the final two innings for the Lemon and Black and gave up one hit. 
  • Bush ended the game going 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a walk. 
  • Brabson recorded two hits and two RBIs in the game. 
  • Brown finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. 
  • Hill hit a solo homer in the third inning. 
  • Lamberth knocked in an RBI for the Yellow Jackets. 
  • Powell went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and stole two bases.  
How it Happened

Game 2:
  • Randolph-Macon kept the bats hot going into game two, scoring five runs and took a commanding lead in the game. Powell led of the inning with a single through the left side of the infield and stole second. Boswell singled on a nice bunt to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Powell scored on a failed back pick attempt by the Quakers. Bush knocked in Boswell with a single up the middle for the second run of the inning. Brabson reached on a fielding error by Guilford and allowed Bush to reach third base. The errors kept coming for Guilford, as Davis reached on a fielding error to bring home Bush from third. Lamberth hit a sacrifice flyout to let Brabson cross home and the final run came from Hill with a single to plate Davis. 
  • The fourth inning was where the Lemon and Black scored the final four runs of the game. Powell kept her masterful day at the plate going with a single and moved up to second on a passed ball. Boswell drew a walk in the next at-bat and Bush clutched up with a one out double to bring Powell home from second base. Brabson singled up the middle to score Boswell for the second run of the inning. Randolph-Macon had runners on the corners and Brabson stole second and a throwing error by Guilford allowed Bush to score from third base. The final run of the inning came on a Lamberth single to plate Brabson. 
  • Guthrie tossed the final inning of the game for the Yellow Jackets and secured another 9-0 run rule victory for RMC. 
By the Numbers
  • Sierra Kegley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing four innings and gave up two hits. The freshman added three strikeouts to her score line. Guthrie pitched the final inning and gave up only one hit. 
  • Bush ended the second game going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
  • Lamberth also recorded a two RBI game for the Yellow Jackets. 
  • Brabson, Davis and Hill all had an RBI.
For the Record
  • Powell moved past Olivia Owens '24 into ninth in career stolen bases with 32.

Randolph-Macon will be back at home tomorrow to take on Averett at 1 and 3 p.m.
