How it Happened
  • On Batten's first possession of the game, it put a shot on goal, which was saved by Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School). The Marlins earned a penalty corner as a result, but it was blocked away by RMC. With eight minutes left in the frame, the Yellow Jackets got their first penalty corner of the game and Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) put a shot wide. With just over five minutes remaining, Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) sent a shot in that was blocked, however, Brenna McLean (Rock Hall, Md./Queene Anne's County) picked up the loose change and slotted the goal for a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, both Dresler and Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) put shots on goal, keeping the pressure with RMC through the end of the frame.
  • Three minutes into the second quarter, Kylee Gorham (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) sent a ball in on a penalty corner and Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) tucked it home, giving her team a 2-0 lead. With 9:52 remaining, the Lemon and Black worked to earn yet another penalty corner. After the ball pinballed around the goalkeeper, Caitlin Porter (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) found the back of the cage to extend the lead to three goals. Dresler kept the pressure on, as she registered two shots including one on goal. The home team continued to live in the offensive zone to close out the first half.
  • Once the teams traded possessions for the first four minutes, Randolph-Macon earned two penalty corners and tallied three shots. At the 3:49 mark remaining in the third, Batten finally got sustained pressure in the offensive zone and worked for a penalty corner. On the chance, Randolph-Macon held Batten to a long ball that was sent wide of the net. While the Marlins were able to establish some time of possession, RMC held its 3-0 lead heading into the fourth.
  • 3:01 into the final frame, Randolph-Macon earned a penalty corner try and sent a ball in deep but the Marlins were able to steer clear of allowing a score. The home team continued its pressure, as it fired close range shots to keep the ball out of the Marlins' possession. The Yellow Jacket defense held strong down the stretch, closing out a dominant 3-0 win at home.
