How it Happened
  • 3:07 into the first quarter, Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) registered the first shot of the game and sent it wide. Three minutes later, Kylee Gorham (Suffolk , Va./Lakeland) followed with her own shot but it was blocked by the Maroons. Two programs went on to trade a series of fouls, hindering either team from getting a chance to set up in the offensive zone. Due to the back-and-forth play, the score would remain 0-0 through one.
  • The second frame saw Randolph-Macon earn the first penalty corner opportunity of the contest. Roelink inserted to Neely Winefordner (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) and the senior registered the game's first shot on goal. While Chloe Miller steered it away for the Maroons, RMC got right back on the attack with six minutes remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets earned four penalty corners in a 90-second span and recorded four shots. Grace Oates (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) sent a shot wide before Penelope Trageser (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) tested Miller once again. On the final try, both Gorham and Nathalia McIntyre (Hampton, Va./Grafton) both put shots on target but the score would remain deadlocked through one half.
  • Neither team was able to hold control of the ball until Roanoke finally registered its first shot 6:19 into the period. The shot was sent off target, allowing the Maroons a chance to reload and send another shot wide three minutes later. Brenna McLean (Rock Hall, Md./Queen Anne's County) brought the momentum back to the Lemon and Black, as she responded with a shot. The late offense prevented Roanoke from getting another chance in the third, sending the game to the final quarter with the 0-0 tie.
  • Six minutes into the final frame of the regular season, Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) ripped a shot toward the cage. With five minutes remaining in regulation, the Yellow Jackets set up shop in the offensive zone, as Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) inserted on three consecutive penalty corners, resulting in a blocked shot from Roelink and shot on goal from Miley Slatter (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan). Roelink tallied one more shot in the final two minutes but the home team held firm on defense to force overtime.
  • Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) opened the overtime period with a shot that was blocked. The junior located her own rebound and buried the game-winning goal just 2:34 into OT, sending her team to its 11th win of the season.
Inside the Numbers
  • Randolph-Macon led 14-to-two in shots, including a perfect seven-to-zero in shots on goal.
  • RMC compiled eight penalty corners in the contest, while preventing RC from getting even one.
  • Moul recorded her fourth goal of the season, notching her second goal in the past three road games.
  • Roelink led all players with three total shots, while Gorham and Moul joined her as the only other players in the contest to record multiple shots.
  • Each of RMC's seven shots on goal came from different players.
For the Record
