How it Happened
  • At the 2:02 mark in the first quarter, Janne Roelink (Den Helder, Netherlands/Norfolk Collegiate) earned a penalty corner and put a shot on goal. On the following possession, the Vixens registered their own shot on goal but Valentina Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) was there for the stop. RMC kept its pressure on, as Gorham had a shot that was blocked, with Breea Dresler (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) following with a shot on target. While they did not convert on that chance, the squad took a 1-0 lead with five minutes left. Neely Winefordner (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) located Gorham for the score and the team would hold the lead through the rest of the frame.
  • The Yellow Jackets again came out on the attack, as they worked for a corner opportunity just 2:15 into the second. While Winefordner's shot was blocked, Gorham, Peyton Sutton (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) and Olivia Greene (Amissville, Va./Culpeper County) fired at the goal but Reiyn Hart made the stops for SBC. In the middle of the period, RMC worked for two corners, where it had three shots that were all blocked. On the third insertion, the Lemon and Black doubled their lead, as Annie Pruitt (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) slotted her first goal of the season. In an immediate response, the Vixens earned a penalty corner and cashed in on the chance, putting the score at 2-1 heading into halftime.
  • Even though the Vixens came out of the break with the first two shots, it was RMC who set up the first quality chance. Dresler inserted on a penalty corner to McKayla Clark (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) who then assisted Gorham for her second goal of the game, re-establishing the two-goal differential 4:19 into the third. The Yellow Jackets tallied the next two shots which led to yet another penalty corner, where the visitors posted four shots, including two on goal. The two attempts came from the stick of Brenna McLean (Rock Hall, Md./Queen Anne's County), which was followed by a corner try in the final minute. While Randolph-Macon did not score, it tallied a shot before the end of the frame.
  • Ambrogi-Torres was forced to make the first stop of the first, before Greene tested Hart on the following possession. Greene remained persistent and put another shot on goal to keep the pressure with her team. After the programs traded a handful of fouls, Greene and Clark both tested the SBC keeper but the score remained a two-goal gap. The final 90 seconds saw the Yellow Jackets work for two penalty corners that resulted in four shots, featuring two on target from Greene and Roelink. The sustained time in the offensive zone allowed Randolph-Macon to cruise to a 3-1 win on the road.
