BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The 24th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets opened up the NCAA DIII Softball College World Series out hitting conference foe and #3 Virginia Wesleyan at Illinois Wesleyan University, ultimately falling to the Marlins that hit four long balls.

How It Happened
- In the top of the first inning, Randolph-Macon saw Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) lead off the game with single. Virginia Wesleyan worked its way out of potential danger to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board.
- The Marlins got Sarah Prosser and Laci Campbell on base in the bottom half of the inning. Morgan Tucker knocked them all in with a three run homer to push Virginia Wesleyan into the lead. Samantha Deitsch ended the inning with a solo home run to push the lead to 4-0 for the Marlins.
- In the second inning, Virginia Wesleyan got Alexis Hudgens to reach base with a hit by pitch. She stole second and a wild throw from the Lemon and Black allowed Hudgens to score, extending the lead to 5-0.
- The third and fourth innings were highlighted by Randolph-Macon at the plate. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette), Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) all recorded hits. The Marlins pitching and defense kept the Yellow Jackets off the board.
- Olivia Knight hit the third home run of the game for Virginia Wesleyan in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tucker ended the game in the fifth inning with her second homer of the game, as the Marlins defeated Randolph-Macon by a score of 8-0.
By The Numbers
- Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing 4.1 innings, giving up eight runs on six hits. The senior also struck out five batters in the opening game of the World Series.
- Randolph-Macon was led at the plate by Davis, as she recorded a 2-for-2 day to start the tournament.
- Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick), Lanyon, Boswell, Ellis and Ramos all had a hit each in the game.
