BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The 24th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets defeated #7 St. Mary's (Minn.) by a score of 6-3 for the programs first win at the Division III College Softball World Series in school history.

How It Happened
- Megan McGinnis led off the game with a double for the Cardinals, later scoring on a Makayla Steffes squeeze bunt to push SMU out in front 1-0.
- Randolph-Macon had the bats hot in the bottom of the first inning, with singles by Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick). Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) moved over the runners with a sacrifice bunt. The Cardinals had two outs in the inning and a passed ball and a wild pitch scored Lanyon and Sadler. The two runs moved the Yellow Jackets out in front 2-1.
- In the second inning, Naleya Bork singled and later scored on a Alexandra Gerber single down the left field line to tie up the game at 2-2.
- Lanyon had a one out single in the second inning and Davis hit a monumental two-run homer to give the lead back to the Lemon and Black at 4-2.
- In the fifth inning, Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) crushed a solo home run over the left field fence, extending the Randolph-Macon lead to 5-2.
- The Yellow Jackets added another run of insurance as Lanyon scored Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) that doubled earlier in the inning.
- The Cardinals did not go down without a fight in the final inning, scoring one run to pull closer. Ellis ended the game with a ground out to complete the 6-3 win for Randolph-Macon.
By The Numbers
- Ellis started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing a complete seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. The senior also struck out seven batters in the first elimination game of the World Series.
- Lanyon recorded three hits, an RBI and a run scored at the plate for the Lemon and Black.
- Davis hit her fifth homer of the season with the two-run shot in the second inning.
- Boswell recorded her first career home run at Randolph-Macon with her bomb in the fifth inning.
- Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) and Ellis both had hits in game.
For the Record
- The win is the first time the program has won a game at the Division III College Softball World Series.
- Davis' hit the first ever home run for Randolph-Macon softball in the Division III College Softball World Series.
- This is only the third time in program history in which the Yellow Jackets have recorded 40 or more wins in a season.
