How It Happened
- The first six innings were dominated by both pitchers to keep the game scoreless throughout the pivotal deciding game of the Bethlehem Super Regional.Â
- Ellis had a perfect game going into the sixth inning, until Kaley Hoffman singled into left field for Moravian to leadoff the sixth. Ellis recorded ten strikeouts in the first five innings for the Yellow Jackets to keep the Greyhounds off the scoreboard and base paths.Â
- Leah Chladny pinch ran for Moravian, following the single by Hoffman and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt with one out. Ellis ended the potential scoring threat with a strikeout and a flyout to keep the Greyhounds from taking the late lead. The senior continued her dominance retiring the side in order for Moravian in the top of the seventh inning.Â
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) laced a single into left field to represent the winning run for the Lemon and Black. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) moved Talley into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Randolph-Macon received long and productive at bats from Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) and Ellis that produced walks to load up the bases with one out. Ramos forced the Greyhounds pitcher through another tough at bat, fouling off multiple pitches to try to drive in the winning run. Ramos sent a fly ball into right field and the sacrifice flyout allowed Talley to cross home and send the Yellow Jackets to the World Series. Randolph-Macon took down Moravian by a score of 1-0 to win the Bethlehem Super Regional.       Â
