ASHLAND, Va. - The 12th – ranked Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets saw three different players homer in game two to gain a split with Randolph on senior day.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) led off the first inning with a single up the middle and moved to second on a stolen base. Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) reached on an infield single and Lanyon was thrown out at third base for the first out of the inning. Powell stole send and scored by way of a Reagan Hill (Hanover, Va./Hanover) hard hit single up the middle, giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
- Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) began the game dominant in the circle for Randolph-Macon, striking out four of the first six batters she faced in the first two innings.
- The Lemon and Black see Powell reach base with her second hit of the game, the sophomore also stole second base. Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) drove her in on a two out single up the middle, doubling the lead to 2-0 for Randolph-Macon.
- In the top of the sixth inning, Randolph got its first two runners on via a fielding error and infield single. The runners were moved over by a sacrifice bunt and scored on the second error of the inning by the Yellow Jackets. The WildCats would use the two errors to tie up the game at 2-2.
- Randolph added a run in the top of the eighth inning to take the 3-2 lead. In extra innings a runner is placed on second base. The WildCats played small ball and with a one out double took the lead to begin extra inning.
- In the bottom half of the eighth inning, Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) hit a clutch two out single into left field to score Hill from third to tie up the game at 3-3.
- The WildCats led off the top of the ninth inning with a single up the middle to score the placed runner on second base. Randolph added one more run later in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
- In the bottom of the ninth inning, Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) singled and stole second to put herself and Hannah Martin (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) that was placed on second into scoring position. Lanyon singled home Martin and a wild throw by Randolph plated Sadler and moved Lanyon all the way over to third base with one out. The game would be tied and Lanyon as the winning run was thrown out at home plate with a ground ball by Powell. The game stayed tied at 5-5 and would head into the tenth inning.
- The WildCats scored the ultimate winning run with two outs in the top of the tenth inning. Randolph-Macon had two runners forced out at third base in the bottom half of the inning, falling to Randolph in extra innings 6-5.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis started the game for the Lemon and Black, tossing eight complete innings to get the no decision. The senior allowed five unearned runs on seven hits and struck out 14 batters. Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) finished the final two innings and allowed one run on two hits to take the game on loss.
- Lanyon, Talley and Hill all ended the first game with two hits and an RBI.
- Powell was the final Yellow Jacket to record a multi-hit game and would score two times. Davis added to the overall box score with an RBI to her credit.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- Randolph-Macon exploded at the plate to begin the second game of the day, scoring four runs to take the lead in the game. Lanyon doubled to lead off the game and scored on a Powell two-run homer. Talley hit the second home run of the inning, following a Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) reaching first by way of a fielder's choice.
- In the third inning, Hill hit a one out single and later scored with a double into right center field by Boswell to push the Yellow Jackets lead to 5-0.
- Randolph plated two runs in the top half of the fourth inning that was aided by a fielding error by the Lemon and Black. The WildCats cut the deficit down to 5-2, heading into the final portions of the game.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Randolph-Macon caught some luck with a two out fielding error by Randolph to add one run, setting the score at 6-2.
- Talley led off the fifth inning with a walk, followed by a Guthrie single and Sadler walk to load up the bases with one out. Lanyon worked the WildCats pitcher for a walk to allow Talley to jog home. Powell padded the Randolph-Macon lead even more with a single into left center field to score Guthrie, increasing the lead to 8-2 for the Yellow Jackets.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Davis kicked off the offense with a blast over the left field fence. The game would end via run rule with a Sadler single down the left line to score Boswell. Randolph-Macon avenged its game one loss with a dominant game two win by a score of 10-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie started game two for Randolph-Macon and got her tenth win of the season. The junior tossed six complete innings and gave up two unearned runs on five hits.
- Powell, Talley and Davis all homered for the Lemon and Black in game two. Powell led the team with three RBIs overall in the game.
- Sadler led the offense in hits going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk.
