Fowler's Game-Winner Sends Women's Lax over Lynchburg


ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse edged past Lynchburg, 13-12, behind a six-point outing and game-winning goal by Lilly Fowler (Phoenix, Md./Notre Dame Prep) in an instant lacrosse classic.

How it Happened
  • Lynchburg got on the board first with a score coming 7:03 into the first quarter. Fowler netted the 11th goal of her junior campaign to knot the game at one with 4:44 to play in the first. Elaina Creekmore (Pasadena, Md./Old Mill) beat the Hornets' defense and found the back of the net 43 seconds later to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead. Fowler notched her second score of the afternoon at the 3:14 mark. The Yellows Jackets led the Hornets 3-1 after 15 minutes. 
  • The Hornets scored the first goal of the second quarter on a free-position attempt and shot. Another Lynchburg goal tied the game at 3-3 with 10:32 left in the half. The Lemon and Black would regain the lead with a 10th-minute goal from senior Anna Snoddy (Palmyra, Va./ Fluvanna County). The Hornets capitalized on their second free-position attempt of the quarter to equalize the score, 4-4. At the 7:03 mark, Lynchburg took the lead with a goal from McKenna Steinau. Lynchburg would grow their lead with another score to make it 6-4 with 5:53 left in the 2nd quarter. Evie McNeally's (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) pass set up a Rianna Lowery (Bel Air, Md./Notre Dame Prep) goal to bring the Jackets back within one goal. Just over a minute later freshman Reese Toth (Edgewater, Md./South River) netted her fourth career goal to tie the game, 6-6. Lynchburg quickly responded to retake the lead. Taylor Mittelstadter (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) locked the game back up at 7-7, heading into halftime with a goal inside the last two minutes of the second quarter.
  • The Yellow Jackets started the third quarter by taking advantage of a man-up opportunity as Lowery netted her second goal of the day. Creekmore beat the Hornets' defense for the second time to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 9-7 with 10:21 to play in the third period. The Hornets would pull back within one score. Goalkeeper Ellen Stark (McLean, Va./Oakcrest) shut down back-to-back free-position attempts from Lynchburg. Lynchburg would tie up the game, 9-9, heading into the fourth quarter behind a final-minute goal. 
  • The Hornets scored first in the final period, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity. Fowler took advantage of a man-up opportunity and completed the hat-trick on a free-position shot to deadlock the game at 10-10 with 10:01 to play. Lynchburg regained the lead with a man-up goal at the 8:40 mark. Natalie Moul (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) scored a man-up goal with the help of a pass from Fowler to tie the game at 11-11 with less than seven minutes in the game. Lynchburg quickly responded with a score from Isabella Vogel to take the lead back at 12-11. Cami McNeally (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) netted her first goal of the game to keep the Yellow Jackets in the game with 4:54 left. With 0:09 left on the clock, Evie McNeally set up Fowler for her fourth goal of the day to put the game on ice, 13-12. 
Inside the Numbers
  • Fowler led the Jackets with six total points. The junior netted a team-high four goals, added two assists, and picked up a ground ball. 
  • Lowery and Creekmore each added two goals for the Lemon and Black. Lowery also caused two turnovers and scooped up one ground ball. Creekmore tallied one draw control. 
  • Evie McNeally led the Yellow Jackets with two assists. The senior also tallied four draw controls. 
  • Laila Omar (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) led the team in caused turnovers with four and ground balls with five. Amanda Maxwell (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) controlled three draws, scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover. 
  • Hailey Pierce (Mechanicsville, Va./Mechanicsville) was stellar in the draw circle, recording five to lead the team. 
  • Stack tallied five saves in the second half and grabbed the win for the Yellow Jackets. Gillian Gladden (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added three saves to the total save count for Randolph-Macon. 
  • Randolph-Macon controlled 16 draws compared to Lynchburg's 12.
  • The Lemon and Black ended the contest going 14-for-18 in clear attempts.
