FERRUM, Va. - The 17th – ranked Randolph-Macon softball team swept Ferrum on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets offense exploded for 26 hits in the doubleheader and kept the Panthers off the scoreboard.

How it Happened
Game 1:
- In the second inning, Mya Davis (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) hit a two-out single up the middle and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) drew a walk to put two runners on with two outs in the inning. Jacy Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) had a big double down the left field line to score Mya Davis. Naomi Sadler (Emporia, Va./Brunswick) continued with the hits trend and knocked in both Ellis and Ramos to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead.
- Reagan Hill began the third inning with a double into left center field with one out. She later scored on a two-out Charlotte Boswell (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) single to grow the Randolph-Macon lead to 4-0.
- Ellis had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the fifth inning, until Ferrum led off the inning with a single up the middle. The senior recorded seven strikeouts up until the single for the Panthers.
- The Lemon and Black added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning and took a commanding 7-0 lead. Ellis began the inning with a walk and Ramos reached on a fielding error by Ferrum. Blayne Talley (Richmond, Va./Cosby) was sent in to pinch run for Ellis and both her and Ramos scored on an Amanda Lanyon (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) single up the middle. Lanyon later crossed home on a Tori Powell (Freeman, Va./Mecklenburg County) double for the third run of the inning.
- Ramos recorded her second RBI of the game in the seventh inning, hitting a single into right field to cash in Boswell.
- The Panthers were able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ellis sat down the final two batters of the game via strikeouts. Randolph-Macon would use clutch two out hitting to defeat Ferrum 7-0 in game one.
Inside the Numbers:
- Ellis ended the game as the winning pitcher and would record her tenth win of the season. The senior threw seven complete innings for the shutout, allowing only one total hit. Ellis struck out 12 batters and only walked one in game one.
- Lanyon, Sadler and Ramos all recorded multi-hit games. The trio also had two RBIs each in the game.
- Powell and Boswell would also end the first game with an RBI each for the Lemon and Black.
How it Happened
Game 2:
- In the first inning, Powell hit a one out single through the left side of the infield. She would advance to second on a passed ball and later score on a Boswell single up the middle. Randolph-Macon jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in game two.
- Courtney Guthrie (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) hit a one out double into the left center field gap in the second inning. Sadler knocked Guthrie in on a single through the left side of the infield, extending the Yellow Jacket lead to 2-0.
- Guthrie was faced with a bases-loaded no out jam in the bottom half of the second inning. She forced Ferrum into an infield pop up and back-to-back strikeouts to keep Randolph-Macon in front 2-0.
- The Lemon and Black would explode in the third inning for five runs total. Powell, Boswell and Kayla Davis (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) all walked to load up the bases with one out. Ashley Bush (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) unloaded the bases with a three RBI double into right center field. Randolph-Macon was not finished, as Ramos tripled to score Bush and Sadler cashed in Ramos on a single into left field. The five run inning saw the Yellow Jacket lead increase to 7-0.
- Madison Faries (Colonial Heights, Va./Colonial Heights) doubled and Talley singled to begin the fifth inning. Lanyon brought both of them home with a triple into deep center field. The tenth and final run would be scored by Lanyon on a Powell ground out to shortstop.
- Kailey Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Colonial) allowed one hit in the bottom of the fifth inning, but kept the 10-0 scoreline to end the game early by rule of the eight run rule.
Inside the Numbers:
- Guthrie received the win in game two, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and struck out four batters. Jackson pitched the fifth inning and gave up only one hit.
- Bush, Sadler and Lanyon all had two RBIs in the second game for Randolph-Macon.
- Boswell, Ramos and Powell each ended the game with an RBI.
