How It Happened
- The Lemon and Black opened up the day sweeping doubles play with dominant performances at second and thirds as both teams won their matches by 8-1 margins. Gabby Cifuentes (Sr., Stafford, Va. / Paul VI) and Rachael Johnston (Sr., Roanoke, Va. / Hidden Valley) paired together at seconds to defeat Megan Scott and Esme Atkinson, while Adele Huffman (So., Granite Falls, N.C. / University Christian) and Brianne Bock (Sr., Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) downed Morgan Hundley and Gabby Mendoza at thirds.
- The closest competition of the day took place at first doubles. Grace Holderman (Jr., Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) and Matty Grace Gilliam (So., Murfreesboro, N.C. / Ridgecroft) took on Chelsea Zizzi and Madison Wright at the top pairing and pulled out a nail-biting 8-6 decision.
- From there, singles play saw the Jackets put the team result away early. Johnston made it 4-0 early as she scored to 6-0 set decisions over Wright at third singles. Sarah Paige White (Fr., Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) wasn't far behind and scored a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Emma Loughry at sixth singles to secure the team win.
- Holderman played first singles and took a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Zizzi. Cifuentes added a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles. Gilliam went 6-1, 6-2 over Atkinson.
- Huffman made it a perfect weekend in singles play as she scored a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hundley at fifths.
