How It Happened
- After a solo homer in the top of the fifth for the Quakers, the Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the frame. Senior Cole Grinde (Woodford, Va./Caroline) had a base hit and moved to third when the ball was misplayed in right. Junior Jacob Selden (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) sent a sacrifice fly to right to plate Grinde and even the score at 1-1.
- R-MC broke the deadlock an inning later. Duphorn drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on an errant throw by the catcher and scored on a groundout by senior Mike Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 edge. Duphorn became the program's leader in career runs with 162, passing former Yellow Jacket and current assistant coach Jeff Butler. With two away, senior Reece Yeargain (Chester, Va./Benedictine) tripled to left center and came home on a bunt single by senior Shawn Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) as the lead grew to 3-1.
- The Quakers pulled within one in the eighth and put the tying run on first with one away in the ninth. Senior Hayden Moore (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) came in from the bullpen and rolled a double play to end the game and notch his second save.
- Zubovich (4-0) scattered seven hits and did not walk a batter. The Quakers had at least one baserunner each innings and stranded seven over the first seven frames.
