In Battle For Second, Women's Tennis Defeats Lynchburg

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon helped make its case to be the No. 2 team in the conference as it defeated Lynchburg 6-3 Friday afternoon in Ashland. The two were battling to get the head-to-head advantage in the event of a potential tie in the final ODAC standings. Lynchburg ended its season today while R-MC still has two matches to finalize its standing heading into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament next week.

Randolph-Macon swept the doubles competition as all three pairs won against their Hornet opponents. #1 duo of junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and sophomore Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) defeated Lynchburg's Christina Harris and Sarah Wyly 8-2. The duo is now 3-1, all from the #1 spot.

#2 pair of junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) defeated Ellen Druebbisch and Lilli Altenburg 8-3. The two are now 4-0 on the season, all as the #2 doubles pair.

#3 doubles pair of senior Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash) and sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) had the closest doubles match of the afternoon, but still pulled out the victory. They defeated R-MC's Reagan Coon and Halle Lavieri 8-6.

But Lynchburg was not quiet in singles. Harris defeated Tersigni 6-0, 6-2 in #1 singles. Altenburg and Coon got wins over Uzer and Hinson in #4 and #6 singles respectively. Altenburg won 6-1, 6-3 against Uzer and Coon won 6-2, 6-3 against Hinson.

But along with the three wins in doubles, Yeager, Dantzler and Aud got victories in singles, ensuring R-MC won the match.

Dantzler won in #3 singles as well. She defeated Wyly 6-1, 6-3, marking her tenth win of the season. Dantzler is 9-3 in #3 singles.

Aud got the victory over Druebbisch 6-3, 6-1 in #5 singles. It marked Aud's tenth win of the season, including her third in #5 singles.
