ASHLAND, Va. – The #2 R-MC women's tennis advanced to the ODAC semifinals with a 5-0 win over #7 Lynchburg at the Banks Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
R-MC had an impressive sweep at doubles. Seniors Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C./ K-12 International Academy) and Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./ Varina) avenged their loss to at #1 doubles earlier in the season. The pair won 8-1 over Christina Harris and Lilli Altenburg.
At number two doubles, seniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./ Warhill) won 8-4. Tomlin and Jesseman are now 14-4 in doubles this season.
Sophomore Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va./ Robinson Secondary) and freshman Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va./ Wilson Memorial) picked up an 8-3 win at #3.
R-MC won at #2 and #4 singles to clinch the match. Sophomore Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va./ York) was first off with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sarah Wyly.
Clinching the match for the Yellow Jackets was freshman Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va./ York). Dantzler won 6-0, 6-1 to send R-MC into the ODAC semifinals.
Tomlin, Jesseman and McDonald were all winning their singles matches comfortably before the match was clinched.
The Yellow Jackets (16-2) will play the winner of #6 Emory & Henry and #3 Randolph in the semifinal match at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
R-MC will host the ODAC semifinals and finals at the Banks Tennis Center Saturday and Sunday.
