McDonald Wins Deciding Match in 5-4 Victory over Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. – Senior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./ Varina) won the fifth and final point for the R-MC women's tennis in the 5-4 win over Roanoke on Saturday.

R-MC trailed 3-0 after doubles, but would win five of the six singles matches to win the ODAC match. The Yellow Jackets improve to 10-1 for the season and 5-0 in the ODAC.

At the number two flight, sophomore Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va./ York) won 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) won her match in three sets. She lost the first set 6-3, but would come back and win 6-2 and 6-0 to win the point for R-MC.

Freshman Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va./ York) won a close match at the number four singles spot. She won 6-4, 7-6, winning the second set tie-breaker 7-1.

Senior Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./ Warhill) won at number five with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 score.

The ninth and final point of the match came down to McDonald and Lydia Dey at number six. Dey would win the first set by a score of 6-4. With the match on the line, McDonald would storm back winning 6-2 in the second and win the match with a 6-1 score in the third set.

The #17 regionally ranked R-MC women's tennis team will be back in action tomorrow with a home ODAC match against Shenandoah at 1 p.m at the Banks Tennis Center.
