ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team opened the 2017 season with an 8-1 victory over St. Mary's on Sunday morning.
The Yellow Jackets went 3-0 in doubles to start the match. At the number one spot, seniors Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C./ K-12 International Academy) and Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./ Varina) beat St. Mary's 9-8 after winning the tiebreaker 7-5. McDonald also won at the six spot in singles winning 6-1 and 6-0.
At the two spot for doubles, another senior pair of Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./ Warhill) and Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) would pick up a victory, winning 8-2. Each of them would win their singles matches, Jesseman at number five with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and Tomlin at three with a 6-1, 6-1 score.
Rounding off the doubles was the pair of sophomore Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va./ Robinson Secondary) and freshman Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va./ Wilson Memorial). The pair won 8-2.
In singles R-MC went 5-1. In the number two spot, sophomore Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va./ York) handled the number two, winning 6-0 and then 6-3.
Freshman Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va./ York) earned her first R-MC victory by winning 6-0, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Thursday, March 2nd for an ODAC match against Sweet Briar.
