Box Score ASHLAND, Va.. - Freshman Colin Disesa (Ashland, Va./Hanover) scored a pair of goals as the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-3 decision to Christopher Newport Wednesday evening at Day Field.
The Captains (1-1) recorded the only goals in the first quarter in taking a 4-0 lead after one period.
After CNU tallied the first goal of the second quarter, senior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) found Disesa in front of the net, whose behind-the-back shot gave R-MC its first goal, making it 5-1 with 5:28 left in the period. That would be the score heading into intermission. Junior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) paced the Yellow Jackets (1-2) with three first-half shots.
The Captains had the first goal of the third quarter before the Yellow Jackets registered a man-up goal as Muncie scored on an assist by freshman Ryan Tiffey (Colombia, Md./Wilde Lake) to make it a 6-2 contest with 9:06 left in the period. CNU would net the final five goals of the quarter and extend its lead to 11-2 after three periods.
After a goal by the Captains to start the fourth quarter, Disesa netted his second goal on an assist by Muncie to make it 12-3 with 8:47 remaining. CNU had the final two goals as the game finished 14-3.
Muncie had a goal and an assist, while leading the team with five shots.
Senior Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) had nine saves and led the Yellow Jackets with six ground balls.
Randolph-Macon continues its home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. against Goucher at Day Field.
