Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) scored the winning goal with less than two minute remaining in R-MC men's lacrosse's 9-8 victor over Catholic. Senior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./ Severna Park) had six total points including three goals and three assists in the win.
R-MC improves to 1-1 on the season and drops Catholic to 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets trailed 2-1 in the first period, Mayer scored his first in the period. In the second quarter, R-MC scored four straight goals, capped off by sophomore Andrew Hogg (Charlottesville, Va./ Albemarle), taking the lead at 5-2. The Yellow Jackets headed into the half leading 5-3.
The Yellow Jackets and Cardinals traded goals in the third period. Junior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./ Midlothian) scored his sixth goal of the season in the third period.
Randolph-Macon would go in the final period with an 8-5 lead. The Yellow Jackets ran into trouble with penalties that saw the Cardinals even the score at 8-8 with just over five minutes remaining.
Senior goalie Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va./ E.C. Glass) made a crucial save on a Cardinals possession to keep the score even. He made nine saves in the game and picked up two ground balls. R-MC would then score through Camilliere when he shot the ball from a tight angle, which would end up being the game-winning goal.
Freshman Joe Maranto (Joppa, Md./ Fallston) led the team in ground balls, picking up five. R-MC forced nine turnovers, Muncie, freshman Colin Disesa (Ashland, Va./ Hanover) and sophomore Austin Evans (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) all forced two.
R-MC will be back in action with a home game against Christopher Newport on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
