LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./Warhill) and freshman Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown) both earned points in doubles and singles as the second-seeded Randolph-Macon women's tennis team topped third-seeded Roanoke 5-1 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (17-1) will face top-seeded Washington and Lee for the ODAC Championship on Sunday, May 8 at 10 a.m. R-MC has reached the title match for the first time since the league went to team post-season play in 2007. The Yellow Jackets also extended their program record for victories in a season with 17.
R-MC won two of three doubles matches. After the Maroons (12-11) won at No. 1 Doubles, Tersigni and junior Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala./Charlotte County Day) took No. 2 Doubles 8-5. After holding a 7-2 lead, Jesseman and junior Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./Prince George) pulled out an 8-5 victory at No. 3 Doubles to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 advantage.
Tersigni was the first to finish in singles, registering a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./Varina) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Jesseman clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 Singles.
