Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) recorded four goals and two assists, while sophomore Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) netted five goals as the second-seeded Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets thumped third-seeded Lynchburg in the semifinals of the 2016 ODAC Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (12-5) will face top-seeded Washington and Lee in the ODAC title game on Saturday, May 7 at 4 p.m. at Watt Field in Lexington. The Generals (12-5) defeated fourth-seeded Roanoke 17-8 in the earlier semifinal contest.
Jamieson scored two minutes into the game and Hsieh added a goal less than a minute later on an assist by sophomore Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) as R-MC took an early 2-0 lead. After a goal by the Hornets (12-6), senior Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) scored on an assist by freshman Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) and Jamieson added two goals to give R-MC a 5-1 lead with 19:45 left in the first half. LC would net a pair of goals to narrow the gap to 5-3 before junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) scored with 9:00 remaining and Hsieh netted her second goal with 11 seconds left as the Yellow Jackets took a 7-3 lead at the break.
Jamieson and Hsieh had the first two goals of the second half as the lead grew to 9-3. The Hornets scored three of the next four goals, as junior Laney Dee (Norfolk, Va./Bishop Sullivan) netted the score for R-MC, as LC narrowed the gap to 10-6 with 22:09 remaining. The Yellow Jackets tallied seven of the final eight goals of the game to make the final 17-7. Junior Jessie Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) had three goals in the final flurry, while Hsieh and Russo both scored twice. Jamieson had a pair of assists in the final spurt, while Lightfoot, Cornbrooks, Russo and junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) each had one assist.
Russo and Cornbrooks both finished with three goals and one assist. Snee and senior Katie Schweitzer (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) paced the Yellow Jackets with three ground balls. Hsieh led R-MC with four draw controls, while Snee and Dee both snared three draw controls. Senior Tricia Mangas (Chantilly, Va./Paul VI) had two caused turnovers for the Yellow Jackets.
Junior Allie Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) recorded 11 saves for R-MC.
