SALEM, Va. – Third-seeded Randolph-Macon started off Day 2 of the ODAC Softball Tournament by taking on the #5 seed Roanoke in an elimination game. The Yellow Jackets would come away with a 7-6 victory and continue to advance through the tournament as well as eliminating Roanoke.

The Maroons (19-22) managed to put up a run in the top of the first but R-MC (31-12) responded immediately after a double to left center from senior Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) scored sophomore Brandi Mulvena (Farnham, Va./Rappahannock) who had drawn a walk earlier in the inning. After Gilman moved to third, a single down the right field line by sophomore Harley Jones (Broadnax, Va./Brunswick) scored her to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead going into the top of the second.

R-MC managed to put up two more in the bottom of the second after sophomore Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) powered a double over the center fielder's head and moved to third on a single to center by freshman Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry). Freshman Diane McDaniel (Fauquier, Va./Liberty) singled to center to drive in a run followed by a sacrifice fly to center by Mulvena to give R-MC a 4-1 lead. 

The Maroons managed to take a 5-4 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth but R-MC responded after Gilman drew a one-out walk followed by a single through the right side by senior Sierra Ford (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan). A pitching change for Roanoke netted them another out before junior Jen Balcom (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) smacked a two-out single to left to tie the game at five. Sophomore Hayden Fontenot (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge) hit a fly ball that the second baseman couldn't handle to score another, followed by a single to left field from Toth to drive in what would become the winning run.

In the top of the sixth, Whittemore entered the game on the mound and gave up one unearned run on two hits.

The Yellow Jackets will now play #4 Lynchburg with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.
