ASHLAND, Va.—The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team, ranked No. 14 in the Atlantic South, posted its 10th shutout of the season with a 9-0 victory over Roanoke Saturday afternoon to stay unbeaten in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play to remain tied with ODAC foe Washington and Lee at the top of the standings.
R-MC grabbed an early 3-0 lead after doubles competition and the momentum continued as the Yellow Jackets swept each singles match.
Junior Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, NC / K-12 International Academy) and sophomore Sid Corrigan (South Bend, Ind. / Saint Joseph's) claimed an 8-6 win at No. 1 Doubles while junior Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala. / Charlotte Country Day) paired with freshman Gaby Tersigni (York, Va. / York) to grab an 8-4 victory at No. 2 Doubles. Juniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va. / Warhill) rallied to win 9-8 at No. 3 Doubles.
Grice posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 1 Singles while Delmas added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 Singles. Tomlin added a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 Singles and Tersigni recorded a 6-4, 6-0 score at No. 4 Singles. Junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Varina) lost the first set 2-6 but rallied 6-0, 6-0 to win at No. 5 while Jesseman won the first set 6-4 before her opponent retired to give R-MC the 9-0 sweep.
The Yellow Jackets will conclude the regular season at the Banks Tennis Center on Sunday, April 24 in a Senior Day duel against No. 13 Washington and Lee for first place in the conference standings.
