Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) recorded seven points with a pair of goals and five assists as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team defeated Virginia Wesleyan 23-5 in ODAC action Wednesday afternoon at Day Field.
Lightfoot is among the national leaders with 43 total goals and 4.3 assists per game.
Nine different Yellow Jackets (9-4, 6-0 ODAC) scored multiple goals and 11 total netted goals. Senior Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney), junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Frankie Willing (Salisbury, Md./Worcester) each had three goals for R-MC.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first two goals and nine of the first 10 goals in building a 9-1 lead 11 minutes into the contest. After the Marlins (2-12, 1-6 ODAC) scored to make it 9-2, R-MC netted the final four goals of the half to lead 13-2 at intermission. Russo had her three goals in the first period and Lightfoot had four of her assists before the break.
R-MC scored the first three goals of the second stanza and netted nine of the first 10 goals after the break to build a 22-3 lead on its way to a 23-5 victory.
Scoring two goals for the Yellow Jackets were Lightfoot, senior Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods), senior Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md./Walkersville), junior Laney Dee (Norfolk, Va./Bishop Sullivan), sophomore Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and freshman Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County). Single goals were scored by sophomore Sarah Alvanos (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) and freshman Lexi Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County).
Jamieson and junior Jessie Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) each had three assists, while Hsieh, junior Kristin Patrick (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshman Saunders Riley (Summerfield, N.C./Northern Guilford) each dished out one assist.
R-MC held a 44-12 advantage in shots, including 29-6 in the first half. Russo had six shots, while Chavez and Snee each added five shots.
The Yellow Jackets won the ground ball battle 33-13, including 25-8 in the first half. Snee, Russo and Alvanos each had four ground balls.
One of the top draw control teams in the nation, R-MC held an 18-11 edge in draw controls. Snee paced the Yellow Jackets with three.
Junior Allie Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) had six saves for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, April 23, with an ODAC contest at Randolph at 4 p.m.
