Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had two extra-base hits, a double and a triple, as the No. 16 Randolph-Macon baseball team lost a 2-1 decision to Guilford in ODAC action Sunday afternoon on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
The Yellow Jackets (11-1, 1-1 ODAC) left 12 on base, including seven in scoring position, and snapped their 11-game win streak to start the season. The Quakers (9-5, 1-1 ODAC) created a 10-way tie for first in the ODAC following the first weekend of conference play.
Guilford used three singles to plate a run in the top of the first. A home run by Logan Jones in the sixth gave the Quakers a 2-0 advantage.
R-MC broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Bryan Miltenberger (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) had a one-out double down the right field line and moved to third when sophomore Devin Strickler (York, Pa./Eastern York) flew out to right. Following a walk to senior Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest), freshman Jeffrey Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) singled up the middle to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Yellow Jackets tried to rally in the eighth. Strickler drew a one-out walk and was erased at second as Sanderson reached on a fielder's choice. Butler dumped a single into shallow center, moving Sanderson to third. Butler tried to take second on the play as both middle infielders had moved to the outfield in an attempt to catch the ball, but was tagged out by the pitcher covering the bag.
Butler and junior Herminio Azor (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) each had two hits along with Lodge.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, March 8, for a 2 p.m. contest at No. 24 Christopher Newport.
