ASHLAND, Va.-- Randolph-Macon women's tennis swept all singles and doubles matches on Saturday, routing Guilford 9-0 in their ODAC opener.
In doubles action, junior Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C. / K-12 Int. Academy) and sophomore Sid Corrigan (South Bend, IN / Saint Joseph's) defeated Katie Claggett and Riley Caruana of Guilford 8-4 at the No. 1 position. Junior Kelsie Grice (Hoover, AL / Charlotte County Day) and freshman Gaby Tersingi (Yorktown, Va. / York) teamed at No. 2 doubles to claim an 8-0 win for the Yellow Jackets (2-0, 1-0 ODAC). Juniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va. / Warhill) added an 8-0 win to sweep doubles play from the Quakers (1-2, 1-1 ODAC).
In singles action, Grice and Tomlin won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Tersingi and junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Varina) also won with relative ease at the No. 3 and No .4 positions. Tersingi notched a 6-2, 6-0 win and McDonald added a 6-0, 6-1 victory. At the No. 1 position, Delmas put away a tough first set 7-5, before cruising 6-2 in the second set over Katie Claggett of Guilford. Jesseman rounded out the victory for R-MC with a 6-1, 6-1 match.
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 6, at the Banks Tennis Center at 11 a.m. to take on Harford.
