Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) scored four goals and added an assist as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 decision to St. Mary's in the season opener for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at Day Field.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at St. Mary's, but snow from late in the week made their field unplayable.
The Seahawks (4-0) tallied the first four goals of the game before Jamieson netted the first goal of the season for the Yellow Jackets (0-1). SMC added a pair of goals before senior Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) scored late in the first half as the visitors led 6-2 at intermission.
SMC scored five of the first seven goals in the second half to take an 11-4 lead with 19:15 left. The Yellow Jackets recorded five straight goals, including two by Jamieson, to pull within two at 11-9 with 12:16 left. The Seahawks got an insurance goal with just over five minutes remaining before sophomore Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) scored with 4:56 left to make it 12-10. Neither team would score the rest of the way, giving the victory to SMC.
Lightfoot had four assists to go with her one goal. Chavez and sophomore Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) both registered two goals, while junior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) also tallied a goal.
Junior Allie Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) recorded 10 saves, including nine in the first half.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, March 9, with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Mary Washington.
