Eight Run Fifth Leads Yellow Jackets to Victory over Keuka

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—An eight-run fifth inning sealed the 10-3 victory over Keuka for the Randolph-Macon softball team in its first game in the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3) scored once in each of the first two innings.

Sophomore Brandi Mulvena (Farnham, Va. / Rappahannock) walked in the top of the first inning and then stole second base before scoring as sophomore Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va. / Clover Hill) doubled.

Junior Jen Balcom (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) walked to open the second inning and advanced to third on a pair of ground outs. Freshman Casey Abernethy (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) drove Balcom home on a single.

R-MC held the 2-0 lead through the fourth inning.

The Yellow Jackets sent 12 to the plate in an eight run fifth. Abernethy scored twice and Gilman added an RBI double. The Wolfpack (0-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Yellow Jackets carried a 10-3 lead through the remaining two innings.

Sophomore Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, Va. / Central) pitched five innings with seven strikeouts.

Randolph-Macon faced Rutgers-Camden later in the day.
