ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.--The Randolph-Macon women's tennis team posted its third straight shutout with a 9-0 win over #18 Elizabethtown Wednesday afternoon to improve to 9-0 on the season.
The Blue Jays (3-3) are ranked No. 18 in the Atlantic South Regional Rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Yellow Jackets (9-0) held a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Junior Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, NC / K-12 International Academy) paired with sophomore Sid Corrigan (South Bend, Ind. / Saint Joseph's) to win 8-6 at No. 1 Doubles. Junior Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala. / Charlotte Country Day) and freshman Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) won 8-5 at No. 2 Doubles. Juniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va. / Warhill) added an 8-2 victory at No. 3 Doubles
Grice won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 Singles. Delmas handled her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 Singles while Tomlin posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 Singles. Tersigni claimed her first set 6-2, dropped the second set 4-6 before rallying to win the third 6-4 at No. 4. Junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Varina) added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 Singles and Jesseman sealed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6.
R-MC women's tennis returns to action on Wednesday, April 6 at the Banks Tennis Center against Virginia Union.
