SWEET BRIAR, Va.—Freshman Gaby Tersingi (Yorktown, Va. / York) and junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Varina) helped the Randolph-Macon women's tennis team sweep Sweet Briar 9-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Tersingi and McDonald did not lose a game at No. 3 and No. 4 Singles, respectively, while grabbing 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles.
The Yellow Jackets (5-0) held a 3-0 lead in the match after doubles play. McDonald paired with junior Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, NC / K-12 International Academy) to win at No. 1. Tersingi and junior Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Ala. / Charlotte Country Day) added an 8-2 victory at No. 2 Doubles while juniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va. / Warhill) won 8-0 at No. 3 Doubles.
R-MC only dropped a total of six games in singles play.
Freshman Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) did not lose a game at No. 6 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Sophomore Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 Singles while Tomlin posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 Singles. Grice added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 Singles.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Banks Tennis Center against the University of Texas at Dallas.
