MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Seniors Mitchell Keeler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) both had two hits, two runs and two RBI as the Randolph-Macon baseball team edged Millsaps 9-8 in the first game of the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic.

Maiolo had a two-run single in a three-run top of the first for the Yellow Jackets (1-0). After the Majors (0-1) tied it with three in the bottom of the frame, Keeler's two-run single sparked a four-run second for R-MC. Junior Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) had a bases-loaded walk in a two-run third as the Yellow Jackets built a 9-3 lead.

Millsaps would add four in the fourth and one in the sixth, but fall one run short.

Senior Tanner Phillips (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) earned the win in relief, hurling three innings with two hits, one run, no walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore Jake Curran (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) worked two scoreless innings with three hits, no walks and three punchouts. Sophomore Christian Cok (Chester, S.C./Lewisville) fanned two in a hitless ninth for his first save.

Brown reached base three times with a hit and two walks while driving in two. Senior Michael Kroll (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) and sophomore Devin Strickler (York, Pa./Eastern York) both had two of the 11 hits for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon will play twice on Day 2 of the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic. The Yellow Jackets will face Southwestern of Texas at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a game against host Huntingdon at 2:30 p.m. ET.
