Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Seniors Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) and Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) registered double-doubles as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Emory & Henry 92-61 Saturday afternoon in Senior Day action in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
Anderson led all scorers with 26 points and added 10 rebounds to notch her 17th double-double of the season and Vugteveen tallied her second double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Two other players finished with double-figures. Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) and Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) recorded 18 and 12 points, respectively.
With the win, Randolph-Macon finished the regular season at 13-12 overall and 8-8 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will be the No. 7 seed entering the ODAC tournament and will host No.10 Shenandoah on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
The seniors led the way as the Yellow Jackets (13-12, 8-8 ODAC) opened the first quarter on an 11-4 spurt. Livermon nailed a three-pointer followed by two layups from Anderson and Vugteveen to find the early lead. The Wasps (18-7, 11-5 ODAC) cut their deficit to three points at 11-8 before R-MC ended the quarter on an 11-0 spurt to hold a 22-8 advantage.
The Wasps cut their deficit to single digits for the last time at 26-17 with 6:19 remaining in the second quarter before the Yellow Jackets compiled a 17-5 spurt to maintain a 43-22 lead with 2:58 to play. The Wasps used a 7-2 run to face a 45-29 deficit at halftime.
Vugteveen finished the first half with 10 points and 10 boards while Anderson and Livermon tallied 13 points apiece.
Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) tallied six assists in the first two quarters.
The Wasps came within 11 points in the third quarter at 49-38 but R-MC responded with a 9-0 run to hold a 20-point lead 4:29 remaining and would extend its lead to 29-points to end the third stanza with a 71-42 advantage.
R-MC quickly held a 30-point, 75-45, lead with 9:07 to play and held an advantage of more than 26 points through the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter. Wisner scored two free throws with 3:46 remaining to give R-MC its largest lead at 86-54 as the Yellow Jackets retained the lead and claimed the 92-61 victory.
Hester finished with eight assists and moved to No. 4 on the R-MC All-Time list with 406 assists. Anderson now has 1,668 points and grabbed the third spot on the R-MC leaderboard and Livermon moved into the top-10 for points with 1,356.
Sophomore Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls) led the reserves with nine points and five rebounds.
