Anderson Breaks R-MC Rebound Record in Win over Randolph

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) broke the program record for career rebounds and scored a career-high 31 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team routed Randolph 90-66 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gym.

Anderson had her 16th double-double of the season as she pulled down 10 boards to go with her 31 points. Anderson grabbed the record-breaking rebound early in the first quarter, passing the total of 1,005 by Molly Ariail. Anderson now has 1,014 career rebounds. Anderson also climbed to fourth on the R-MC career scoring list with 1,628. She is 28 points away from Sarah Parsons in third with 1,656 points.

Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) hit a layup and a three-pointer to cap a 12-2 run to start the game for the Yellow Jackets (12-11, 7-7 ODAC). A baseline jumper by Anderson pushed the advantage to 12 at 22-10 with just over a minute remaining in the opening quarter before the Wildcats (4-19, 2-12 ODAC) scored the final five points of the period to trail 22-15 after one. R-MC went 9 for 10 from the free throw line in the first quarter.

A three-pointer by freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./Central York) gave the Yellow Jackets a 10-point lead at 31-21 with 6:30 left in the second period. Randolph used a 6-1 spurt to trim the deficit to five at 32-27 with 4:50 remaining. Freshman Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) had a trey and a pair of free throws in a 9-2 run as the lead grew to 12 at 41-29 with three minutes left. The Wildcats closed the half on a 7-4 run as R-MC led 45-36 at halftime. Anderson paced the Yellow Jackets with 15 points and six rebounds. She went 7 for 7 from the free throw line, and R-MC was 16 for 18 from the charity stripe.

Anderson had two buckets and Livermon nailed a pair of three-pointers as the Yellow Jackets started the third quarter with a 10-2 spurt to take a 55-38 lead. A Livermon layup with 4:10 remaining pushed the advantage to 20 at 64-44. Randolph closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and trailed 66-51 heading to the final period.

A Livermon trey capped a 7-2 start for the home team as R-MC took a 73-53 lead with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats cut it to 14 at 75-61 before the Yellow Jackets took their largest lead at 90-65 before claiming the 90-66 victory.

The Yellow Jackets matched their season high with 90 points. R-MC shot 54.5% from the floor (30-55) and 85.2% from the free throw line (23-27). Livermon finished with 22 points, while senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) had 12 points and seven assists. Hester moved into sole possession of fifth place on the R-MC career assists list with 396. Mallory had season highs with eight points and four assists. Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) registered seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists for the victors.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 16 with a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Eastern Mennonite.
