Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team won its third consecutive match with a 4-0 victory over Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon. With that victory, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-1-2 for the season and 2-0 in ODAC play while Emory Henry go to 7-3 and 0-2 in ODAC play.
The Yellow Jackets scored goals through four different players with sophomore Andrew Gyimesi (Midlothian, Va./ James River), freshman Anthony Astruc (Glen Allen, Va./ Bendictine), Logan McHugh (Aberdeen, Md./ West Nottingham Academy) and junior Bryan Lutz (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) all finding the back of the net.
The Yellow Jackets had to deal with the high scoring offense of the Wasps, who averaged over four goals a game going into the match. Freshman Paul Duffy (Salem, Va./ Salem) made a crucial block to stop Emory & Henry from opening the scoring in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. A shot from McHugh was saved by the keeper, but Gyimesi was on hand to head the ball into the back of the net, scoring his third of the season.
R-MC continued to defend excellently against E&H in the second half, as junior Jake Tyler (Colonial Heights, Va./ Colonial Heights) stepped in as a center back and helped maintain the clean sheet for the game.
The Yellow Jackets then scored two beautiful goals in the space of three minutes. First, from a short corner from junior Peter Nelson (Charleston, W.Va./ George Washington), Astruc collected the ball at the top of the box and fired a blistering shot in the corner of the goal, scoring his fifth of the season.
Then came the goal of the game as the Wasps goalkeeper was forced the clear the ball outside of his box, McHugh picked up the ball 35 yards from goal and lobbed the ball over the goalie and into the back of the net, making the score 3-0. McHugh added four points (one goal, one assist), to his 12 for the season.
R-MC continued to create chances as senior Liam Hogan (Haymarket, Va./ Battlefield) was able to break down the defense with great ball movement.
In the 77th minute of the game, R-MC scored its fourth goal of the game when Astruc played a ball across the box that was slotted into the right corner by Lutz. That marked Lutz's fourth goal of the season.
Junior Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season and second in a row, as he made four saves. Breslin now has recorded 37 saves on the season.
Randolph-Macon led on shots 24-10 with 11 on target. McHugh led the team with six shots.
