How It Happened
- In the opening minutes of the first half, the RMC backline of Damien Jackson (Newport News, Va./Menchville), Grant Counts (Odenton, Md./St. Mary's [Annapolis]), Charis Tchatat (Douala, Cameroon/Albert Einstein), Wiley Eubank (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) and Chenoweth stood strong against the Hornets' early pressure, keeping Lynchburg off the scoreboard.
- In the 28th minute, Elijah Caro (Asheville, N.C./Black Mountain) nearly broke the deadlock with a header that struck the post following a corner kick. Strong midfield play from Tyler Oakes (Nottingham, England/Toothill School) and Zach Richards (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) helped control the pace, and the teams entered halftime tied 0-0.
- RMC struck first in the 51st minute after Lynchburg's Erik Vasquez was called for a foul in the box. Eubank converted the penalty kick to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. The Hornets quickly answered, leveling the match in the 58th minute on a goal by Evan Pask.
- Lynchburg continued to attack, forcing Chenoweth into multiple saves. The junior goalkeeper stood tall, keeping RMC in the game. However, in the 85th minute, Chris Wiley netted the game-winner off a cross into the box, lifting Lynchburg to a 2-1 victory.
