Anderson Double-Double Leads R-MC past Greensboro

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds, as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team outscored Greensboro 84-76 Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Anderson set a career-high with 12 field goals and matched her season best with 26 points for the Yellow Jackets (6-4). Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) added 20 points and tied her season high with six rebounds. Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) chipped in 16 points and had three assists.

The Pride (5-5) jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead before a three-point play by Anderson sparked a 15-2 run as the Yellow Jackets took a 16-6 advantage midway through the first quarter. Livermon sank a pair of three-pointers during the spurt. GC cut the deficit to six before Anderson scored eight of the next 10 points for R-MC as the home team took a 28-17 lead after one period. Anderson had 14 in the initial period for the Yellow Jackets.

Hester hit a trey two minutes into the second period to give R-MC its largest lead of the half at 31-17. GC used a 7-1 spurt to narrow the margin to 32-24 with 5:17 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets had a 6-2 run to push the lead back to 12 at 38-26 with 4:33 remaining in the half. R-MC would take a 42-34 lead at intermission. Anderson finished the half with 16 points and Livermon added 10 points and five rebounds.

GC scored five of the first seven points in the third quarter to narrow the gap to five at 44-39. R-MC used a 17-2 spurt to push the lead to 20 at 61-41 with 2:10 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets would take a 65-45 lead into the final quarter.

Freshman Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va./Heritage) hit a long jumper with 5:35 remaining to give R-MC a 22-point lead at 74-52. The Pride used an 18-4 run to cut the margin to eight at 78-70 with 45 seconds left. Hester scored the final six points for the Yellow Jackets, including the final four at the free throw line, as the home team posted the 84-76 victory.

Livermon nailed a three-pointer early in the fourth period to give her three for the day and 213 in her career, tying the program record for career treys. Jenn Kohler (1992-96) also sank 213 for the Yellow Jackets.

R-MC had just seven turnovers, while GC committed 19. The Yellow Jackets hit 10 of 15 from the free throw line, while the Pride went just 5 for 14 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) pulled down a career-high nine rebounds to go with her four points. She had five offensive boards. Junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) led all players with six assists.

Alexis Hite had 18 points to lead GC, while Bryanna Stanton had all 16 of her points in the fourth quarter.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 6, with a 7 pm ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan.
