Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.—Senior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) registered her 11th double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) also recorded 15 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team fell 84-73 to Randolph in ODAC action Wednesday evening.
Senior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) added 11 points for R-MC.
The score was tied three times in the first quarter before the Wildcats (4-14, 2-7 ODAC) held a 17-12 advantage with 2:16 remaining. Senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) scored a layup followed by two points from Livermon to bring the Yellow Jackets (8-9, 4-5 ODAC) within one point at 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Randolph held a 21-18 lead before the Yellow Jackets used a 14-6 spurt to hold a 32-27 advantage with 3:04 to play. The Wildcats cut their deficit to one point with 2:25 remaining but R-MC responded with a 5-0 run to lead 36-31. Randolph scored five straight points to knot the score at 36-36 at halftime.
The Wildcats opened the third quarter on a 16-2 run to reach a double-digit lead with 5:09 to play. Freshman Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa. / Central York) scored a jumper followed by two free throws from Anderson to cut the deficit to 10-points at 52-42 with 3:13 remaining. The Wildcats held a 64-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.
R-MC started the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run before the Wildcats added a 6-0 spurt to maintain a 70-51 lead with 6:22 to play. The Yellow Jackets cut their deficit to 12-points with a 9-2 spurt to face a 72-60 margin with 3:24 remaining. The Wildcats led by 16 with just under 90 seconds left before R-MC tallied another 9-2 run which included back-to-back three pointers from Livermon and a trey from junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) to cut the Wildcats' deficit to nine points at 80-71 with 0:36 to play. Randolph went on to claim the 84-73 win.
Freshman Deja Dennis (Owings Mills, Md. / Western Tech) led the reserves with a season-high eight points and five steals.
Freshman Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va. / Miller School) tallied two points and one steal in her first game with the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Saturday, Jan. 30 for an ODAC contest against Hollins at 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will celebrate Back-to-the-Hive with an alumni game prior to the contest.
