Box Score SALEM, Va. – Juniors Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) and Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) as well as freshman Harley Jones (Broadnax, Va./Brunswick) each hit home runs and freshman Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, Va./Central) won her fourth game of the tournament as fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon defeated No. 2 Lynchburg 7-1 Sunday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex to capture the program's first ODAC Softball Championship.
Bagley (19-4) went the distance for the Yellow Jackets (26-10), scattering 10 hits over seven innings with one run, three walks and six strikeouts. The Hornets (31-13) left 12 on base. Bagley was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after going 4-0 with four complete games and two shutouts. She posted an ERA of 0.75 (3 ER in 28 innings). Bagley walked seven and struck out 22
R-MC started the scoring in the top of the first. Senior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, went to second on a passed ball and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Sierra Ford (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan). Gilman delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Sopko with the game's first run. Senior Sharese Jarvis (Cobbs Creek, Va./Mathews) reached on an error before Jones launched a homer down the left field line to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 advantage.
Gilman went deep in the third and Woody went yard to lead off the fourth as R-MC extended its lead to 5-0. Gilman and Woody delivered RBI singles in the fifth as the lead grew to 7-0. LC tallied its lone run in the sixth.
Gilman finished with two hits and three RBI, while Woody added two hits and two RBI. Sopko scored twice for the Yellow Jackets.
Joining Bagley on the All-Tournament Team were Gilman at catcher, Woody at first base, Sopko at second base, as well as Jones and freshman Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill).
Randolph-Macon, under 13th-year head coach Kevin Proffitt, earned the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will be the first appearance in program history for the Yellow Jackets.
