Box Score Roanoke, Va. – The Yellow Jackets continued to roll through the ODAC tournament with their 6-2 victory today against No. 2 Lynchburg. R-MC is now the only remaining undefeated team in the tournament. Freshman Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, VA / Central) recorded her third win of the tournament while the Yellow Jackets piled up 15 hits in the game.
R-MC managed to get hits early on in the game but couldn't string anything together until the fifth inning. Hayden Fontenot (Lexington, VA / Rockbridge) started the inning with a single to right before being bunted over by Addi Johnson (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan). Another single from Skylar Toth (Midlothian, VA / Clover Hill) put runners on the corners. The RBI's came in the form of a double to deep left field from Sierra Ford (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) to give R-MC a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh singles from Toth, Amanda Sopko (Skippers, VA / Greensville), and Ford loaded the bases and Sharese Jarvis reached on a fielder's choice that scored Toth from third. With runners on the corners again freshman Harley Jones hammered a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left center field for a three-run homer to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-1 lead.
Freshman pitcher Nelda Bagley recorded her third win of the tournament while racking up four more strikeouts. The highlight of the game defensively came in the bottom of the sixth for R-MC. A double to right field looked like it would bring it a run but a perfect relay from Jones to Sopko and great position from catcher Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, VA / Patrick Henry) resulted in the runner being thrown out at home. R-MC had three different players' record three hits in the game. Jones and Fontenot were both 3-4 and Toth was 3-3. Sierra Ford and Katie Woody (Ashland, VA / Patrick Henry) also added two hits apiece.
The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to play tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the championship game of the tournament. R-MC will have to be beaten twice to be eliminated.
