Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored four goals and junior Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) added three as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team nipped Shenandoah 12-11 Wednesday afternoon in ODAC action at Day Field.
The Yellow Jackets (13-3, 9-1) clinched second place and will earn a bye in this weekend's quarterfinal round. R-MC will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, April 29. The Hornets (12-4, 8-2) will be the No. 3 seed in the ODAC Tournament.
R-MC scored three of the game's first four goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Sophomore Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll), Hsieh and Whitman netted goals as the Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 lead. SU tallied the next three goals to assume a 4-3 advantage with 16 minutes remaining in the half. R-MC responded with five straight goals to take an 8-4 lead with 5:30 to go in the period. Whitman had the first two goals in the run. The Hornets added a goal with 4:33 remaining and Hsieh recorded her third goal with three minutes left to give R-MC a 9-5 advantage at intermission.
SU scored the first three goals of the second half to pull within one at 9-8 with 22:28 remaining. Hsieh and junior Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) netted goals to push R-MC's lead to three at 11-8 with 17:37 to go. The Hornets added a goal three minutes later to make it a two-goal difference at 11-9. Freshman Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) scored on an assist by Russo with 14 minutes remaining. SU got the final two goals of the game, but fell one short at 12-11.
R-MC held a 27-17 advantage in shots, including 15-6 in the first half.
The Yellow Jackets dominated in draw controls by a 20-5 margin. Snee recorded 10 draw controls and Whitman added eight.
