Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led all scorers with six goals, including the go-ahead score in the second half, as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team pulled out a 12-10 ODAC victory over Roanoke Saturday afternoon at Day Field.
Whitman scored the first goal of the game 1:21 into the contest for the Yellow Jackets (12-3, 8-1 ODAC) before the Maroons (7-3, 7-4 ODAC) tied it three minutes later. R-MC tallied three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead eight minutes into the contest. Roanoke scored three of the next four goals to make it a 5-4 game. Whitman added another goal and freshman Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored twice as the Yellow Jackets took an 8-4 advantage. The Maroons scored twice in the final 1:15 of the period to make it 8-6 at intermission.
Roanoke scored three of the first four goals in the second half to even the score at 9-9. Whitman connected on a free position shot with 18:43 remaining to give R-MC the lead for good at 10-9. Sophomore Jessie Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) scored with 15:17 to go and Whitman netted her final goal with 3:30 left as the Yellow Jackets took a 12-9 lead. The Maroons tallied the final goal of the game to make it 12-10.
Whitman had six goals on six shots. She also had five draw controls. R-MC held a 16-7 advantage in draw controls.
Hsieh finished with three goals and two draw controls.
Sophomore Jamie Langbein (Brookville, Md./Sherwood) recorded seven saves in the second half.
Randolph-Macon is tied for second with Shenandoah in the ODAC standings. The Yellow Jackets and Hornets meet on Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m. at Day Field in Ashland.
