Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) had two hits and three RBI in the opener and freshman Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, Va./Central) raised her record to 5-0 as the Randolph-Macon softball team split an ODAC doubleheader with Shenandoah.
The Yellow Jackets (7-3, 3-1) took the opener 9-1 in five innings before the Hornets (4-10, 3-3) eked out a 4-3 win.
In Game 1, Gilman had an RBI double in the first to give R-MC the lead for good. She added a sacrifice fly in the third and a run-scoring single in the fifth that ended the contest.
Bagley allowed three hits and a run in five innings with no walks and six strikeouts in recording the victory.
Juniors Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) and Sierra Ford (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) both had two hits, one run and one RBI, while freshman Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) homered for the Yellow Jackets.
Ford went 3 for 4 with a homer and two runs in the nightcap. R-MC scored twice in the fifth to pull within one at 4-3, but the Yellow Jackets stranded 10 in the contest, including three in the seventh, and fell one run short.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, March 24 with a 3 p.m. home ODAC doubleheader with Virginia Wesleyan.
